Yayoi Kusama, the avant-garde artist from Matsumoto City. Left her hometown for the U.S. more than half a century ago. With her unparalleled individuality, she has become a dominant voice on the global artistic scene.

Born in 1929, Kusama from a family rooted in Matsumoto City; she has battled ever since against the hidden images of her psyche.

From traditional Japanese paintings and drawings of her youth in Matsumoto City; to the Net paintings, soft-sculptures, films, installations, field sculptures, performances and fashion since her time in the U.S; she has continued to break boundaries by creating new art forms. Subsequently, Kusama’s endlessly creative activities mean her portfolio has never become stagnant.

Possessing an unprecedented talent, Yayoi Kusama is an artist worthy to be called a genius. Yet, her achievements have never been easier to obtain.
What made her leave her hometown in about sixty years ago? What was in her mind at that time; agony, distress or perhaps, hope?
Setting Kusama’s latest series of work "My Eternal Soul" as a main theme, holding this exhibition in her birthplace, Matsumoto City, visitors can appreciate more of Kusama’s art world.

Advance tickets on sale from Feburary 1st (Fri) - March 2rd (Fri), 2018.

The exhibition tickets do not specify the date.
The tickets can be used anytime during the Yayoi Kusama Exhibition.
Day tickets are available on-site at Matsumoto City Museum of Art on the day of visit. In order to avoid the queues and reduce the waiting time at the museum, we recommend the visitors to book the ticket in advance through online service. Without joining the queues, visitors can enter smoothly with online tickets.
